One of the things I love about being a destination wedding photographer is getting to meet people from all over the world. I had 3 conversations with Gordana before her wedding, and in each conversation she said that she’d really need my help with having her photo taken.  She said, because she’s awkward in front of the camera. As soon as she said that, I knew I was golden. Each time I’ve heard that from a bride or groom, it’s been magical. Like ridiculous. Like everything they did naturally was just perfect.

And they were no exception. Gorgeous. Just absolutely gorgeous. Even when it poured rain on them…

Part one of this Rock The Dress session involved an amazing custom made sari. Part two involved an abandoned building and an unexpected guest. Part three landed us in a waterfall… one of my favorite places to shoot here on Maui. Truly magical.  Hair and makeup by the talented Maui Mira.

This Haiku Mill Wedding was kind of… the bomb.  The Haiku Mill is… by FAR… one of the most unique and beautiful locations on Maui to get married.  In fact, this venue is exactly what brought Nikki and Matt to Maui for their wedding.  They found a site that listed the top 20 places to get married IN THE WORLD, and found and fell in love with the Haiku Mill.  I’m so lucky to have such a world class venue 20 minutes from my house.  And I’m so lucky that I keep connecting with couples who have style and are super fun to work with.

So this was another of those situations where the bride says she doesn’t know what to do in front of the camera and then I just can’t take my camera off of her because everything she does naturally is totally perfect.  And her tulle skirt… though it made her crazy throughout the day and collected lots of bugs, was so fun to photograph!

Can’t wait to book another Haiku Mill Wedding!  Full list of pretty awesome vendors below:

Maui Rock the Dress Session

This Maui Rock the Dress session is part 2 of a 3 part series.  The first part honored Indian culture with a gorgeous, custom made sari.  This second part honored the couples fairy tale, happily-ever-after side, with a cinderella dress and my version of a clock tower.

What’s super funny about this part of the shoot, was that months earlier, while the bride and I were in talks about how to approach their Maui rock the dress shoot, she sent me some photos showing me her style.  They were gorgeous photos of a girl and a horse.  She said in her email “I know there won’t be a horse to work with, but I just loved these photos so much”.

So imagine my surprise, when we arrived at our second location, cinderella dress and all, and there was a horse.  THERE WAS A FREAKIN’ HORSE!  I couldn’t believe it.  These two manifested a horse for their shoot.  They are pretty rad.

Here’s part two…

When I’m not photographing people for a living, I’m annoying the crap out of my own family with my camera.  And when they are all sufficiently annoyed and are giving me the finger in every shot, I turn to the world around me to fulfill my need to take the pictures that I see in my head and make them a two-dimensional reality.

Black and White Photography for Sale

Black and White Photography for Sale

I’ve started a collection of some of my favorite black and white photography shots that are now available as fine art prints and canvas gallery wraps.

LIKE AND COMMENT to Win a Free Black and White Photography Canvas

I am a total sucker for a huge, black and white canvas gallery wrap on an otherwise empty wall.  It’s minimalist and modern and very eye catching.  I’m also a sucker for a collection of black and white images framed as a group.  Modern frames create a contemporary look, or throw in mismatched frames for a more vintage flare.  Any way you hang it, black and white photography is such a timeless way to decorate.
