This stunning Maui Elopement was featured on The Knot.  And I’m so glad.  Jocelyn and Chris chose the Olowalu Plantation House on Maui for their Maui Elopement and though I’ve shot at this venue so many times before, their personal style and personalities made me look at it in a whole new light.  Her dress, and her Valentino shoes… and his laid back, understated style… it was so beautiful.  And the light… holy cow.

And they were totally open to playing and laughing and dancing and spinning.  These two… loved this wedding so much!!

I love Lanai.  It’s so quiet and mellow and the fact that I can sit by the pool at the Four Seasons Manele Bay and have drinks brought to me doesn’t hurt.  Bianca and Brian chose the beautiful island of Lanai for their wedding and MAN did they heat up that beach!  They were so gorgeous and so in love that it made being a Lanai Wedding Photographer so.stinking.easy.  I mean, look at them.  And her necklace!  Their style!  So simple and elegant and with the coolest details.  His ring was custom made in Hawaii.  He picked up a pen that was made from Koa wood, from Lanai, for their certificate signing.  In their suite were two bottles of excellent wine, one from the year she was born and one from the year he was born.

And they were fun.  And gorgeous.  And then I sat at the pool and had drinks brought to me.  All in all… fantastic day.  Here’s some favorite shots from this Lanai Wedding.

So, I’ve recently started taking dance lessons from a good friend of mine Ajja, who is also a great photographer specializing in dance and ballerina brides.  I LOVE to dance, and have not nurtured that part of myself since third grade.  So it feels really good to finally do something that I love (big thanks to my bride Jess from November of last year who’s unbelievably beautiful ballet feet reawakened this passion in me).  I’ve also become really close with Alexander Academy of Performing Arts in Maui.  They recently put on a performance of Cinderella here in Maui.

So, normally, when you go to a ballet school performance, you kind of expect hokey dances, LOTS of repetitive steps, simple choreography.  At least, that’s how it was when I took dance all those years ago.  I mean, they’re kids right?

Can I just tell you… I was BLOWN AWAY.  Seriously, the level of choreography and dance was like… off the charts.  So impressive.  Totally engaging and extremely enjoyable.  I was really pleasantly surprised.  I shot over 400 images for the school, but as always, black and whites are my favorite.  So wanted to share just a few of my favorite black and white shots from that performance.

If you want to support this school, which is a DONATION ONLY school, here is a link to their fundraising page.  I’m donating FOR SURE.  Because this school not only teaches dance in an impeccable way, but the teachers and director act as real, positive role models for these girls (and boys!), and boy do we need more of those nowadays.

And make sure you check out whatever their performance is next year.  No joke.  It will be RAD.

Small, intimate weddings are always a favorite of mine.  It gives the opportunity to not only get to know the bride and groom better, but also to mingle and get to know the people attending as well.  So it’s basically like attending a fun party… and getting to document it too!  Claudine and John gathered their small group of family and friends at the Olowalu Plantation House on Maui’s west side and tied the knot.

What I loved about this wedding was that they didn’t go overboard with details.  They had relevant details, great food and simple and beautiful flowers.  And gold bridesmaids dresses!  Gorgeous!  It was so low key, and yet oozing with style.

Simple, elegant and beautiful.  Congrats to John and Claudine!
